“Never stop learning.”

What area of study are you specializing in?  AAS Visual Communications/Graphic Design

What or who inspired you to pursue this career? I already had a teaching career, however, I felt I needed more training in layout and design, specifically with Adobe CC programs. This is what led me to Ivy Tech.

When will you graduate? What do you plan to do after graduation? I just completed my final course for graduation in November 2021. I am going to continue teaching and have introduced a 2-D digital design as well as publication design courses into the visual arts curriculum at my school.

What is/was your favorite class and why? I really enjoyed them all but VISC 112 Digital Layout was one of my favorites because  I like designing layouts.

How much time do you spend studying outside of class? Where is your favorite place to study? I typically spent 15-20 hours a week on my classes, usually late into the night sitting on my couch at home.

What high school did you attend and if appropriate what kinds of classes prepared you for success this career? I graduated from Winamac Community High School, received a BA in Art Education from Purdue University and an MS in Secondary Education from Indiana University. My strong background and interest in art is what prepared me for success.

Do you have any advice for your peers? Life Quote? My advice would be to pursue your interests and find something you love to do so it never feels like work. Never stop learning.

Is there anything else you wish to share? I have been an art educator for the past 23 years and this experience at Ivy Tech has been very rewarding for me and has opened up opportunities for advancement in my career that would not have been available had I not decided to pursue another degree. Thank you Ivy Tech for accommodating my non-traditional schedule and being flexible throughout this pandemic.
